2006 Pine & Post Cabernet Sauvignon

January16

You might remember from some previous posts that I’ve been exploring some new economically priced wines. Lucky Star Pinot Noir has been a winner. Leaping Horse Merlot… not so much. Pine & Post Cabernet Sauvignon, hailing from the Columbia Valley of Washington State is the latest experiment. Pine & Post is a Cab blend with 84% Cabernet Sauv, 10% Sangiovese, 3% Syrah, 3% Cabernet Franc — and it’s absolutely amazing! For under $10, this is an amazing value – stock up!

2007 Kiona Vineyards Riesling

July13

2007 Kiona Riesling 2007 Kiona Riesling

This yummy white wine from Washington State was around $10-$12 at Harry’s Farmer’s Market. Perfect for summer, it’s crisp and sweet although more on the medium-bodied side without too much acid. Perfect for a day of chilling out by the pool. I had a glass with some baby back BBQ ribs… maybe a weird choice, but it was already open and it turned out to be a nice contrast.

According to the label, Kiona Vineyard is a family-owned winery in arid, central Washington, and “kiona” is a Native American word for “brown hills.” The Kiona Vineyard has a pretty interesting story, with the original vineyard site lacking roads as well as any utilities. John and Ann Williams literally had to pave the way to get this vineyard off the ground.
