2007 Kiona Vineyards Riesling

This yummy white wine from Washington State was around $10-$12 at Harry’s Farmer’s Market. Perfect for summer, it’s crisp and sweet although more on the medium-bodied side without too much acid. Perfect for a day of chilling out by the pool. I had a glass with some baby back BBQ ribs… maybe a weird choice, but it was already open and it turned out to be a nice contrast.

According to the label, Kiona Vineyard is a family-owned winery in arid, central Washington, and “kiona” is a Native American word for “brown hills.” The Kiona Vineyard has a pretty interesting story, with the original vineyard site lacking roads as well as any utilities. John and Ann Williams literally had to pave the way to get this vineyard off the ground.
